Selous, Udzungwa, Ruaha & Mikumi

Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Selous Game Reserve
Pick up from Dar es Salaam early morning around 6:30 a.m and then drive approx 6 hours to Mtemere gate with picnic lunch on route to Selous Game Reserve for afternoon game drive. Selous is famous for its elephants. Other species commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras and greater kudus. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.

Day 2: A Full Day of Game Drives in the Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast, with picnic lunch depart for a morning game drive in the Selous, Africa's largest wildlife sanctuary, with an area of 54.600kms. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.

Day 3: A Full Day of Walking/ Boating Safaris in the Selous
After breakfast, go on a morning walking safari with intimate impressions of the rich wildlife in the African bush. Afternoon boating safari in the Great Rufiji River where you’ll see hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat. Your guide will also be able to point out interesting birds and plant species during this trip. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.

Day 4: Selous Game Reserve - Udzungwa National Park
After breakfast, departure for Udzungwa via a scenic drive through the Uluguru Mountains to Mikumi (approx 7 hours). Lunch in Mikumi en route to Udzungwa. Late afternoon arrival at the Udzungwa with half-day hiking and bird-watching in the pristine rainforest.

Day 5: Udzungwa National Park
After breakfast, spend a full-day hiking in the Udzungwa Mountains. Picnic lunch in the Mountains. Afternoon hiking and bird-watching in the rainforest and thereafter go for up the Sanje waterfalls for a refreshing swim and stunning views. The uniqueness of Udzungwa National Park lies in its biodiversity in hosting a variety of animals and plant species as Udzungwa has 11 primate species, two of which are not found anywhere else in the world. The Red Colobus and the Sanje crested mangabeys, elephants, buffalos, leopards, and Sable Antelopes are some of the residents in this park. A good range of birdlife is present which includes Rufus winged sunbird, Iringa akalat, Lagden’s bush shrike and Udzungwa partridge. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge. Accommodation options:

Day 6: Udzungwa National Park – Ruaha National Park
After early breakfast, check out and proceed to Ruaha National Park. The drive to Ruaha is a truly fascinating one which gives you the real feel of the African countryside. The journey will see you pass sisal plantations, local villages before climbing the Great Rift Escarpment passing through Iringa Town and finally arriving Ruaha late afternoon. Picnic lunch en route. The park covers 12,950 square kilometers, with a large area of dry savanna. The forest contains Miombo woodlands, Acacia woodlands, Riverine forests and Terminalia scrub. Ruaha and Rungwa areas are home to 450 bird species. Ruaha National Park is home to the largest population of elephants in any East African natural reserve as well as many other animals and birds all attracted to the Great Ruaha River. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.

Day 8: Ruaha National Park
After breakfast, depart for a walking safari which will bring you close to some of the smallest animals and plants that you would not see on a vehicle game drive. The crisp fresh African air mixed with the wild smell of the animals evokes your smell sense to the intoxication unique bush smell of Africa. Each plant and tree has medicinal value in the African Community and our guide will point them out for you. Game drive follows. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.

Day 7: Ruaha National Park
After breakfast, full day game viewing in Ruaha National Park, which is famous for its rare sable antelope, roan antelope, and big herds of elephants. The park represents a transition zone where eastern and southern African flora and fauna overlap. Although Ruaha is one of the largest parks in Africa, it is comparatively unknown and due to its remoteness, remains unspoiled. Approximately 500 species of birds have been spotted within the park. The river area hosts a large number of hippos and crocodiles. There are also other animals in the park; the elusive wild dogs, elephants, lions, leopards, waterbucks, impalas, giraffes, warthogs and elands. Grants gazelle, ostrich and cheetahs may also be seen on the plains. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge. Accommodation options:

Day 9 & 10 Tem Ruaha National Park – Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, depart for a walking safari which will bring you close to some of the smallest animals and plants that you would not see on a vehicle game drive. The crisp fresh African air mixed with the wild smell of the animals evokes your smell sense to the intoxication unique bush smell of Africa. Each plant and tree has medicinal value in the African Community and our guide will point them out for you. Game drive follows. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.

Day 11: Mikumi National Park – Dar es Salaam
After breakfast, drive to Dar es Salaam with packed lunch en-route.
