9 Days Tanzania Safaris Selous Mikumi & Ruaha

Day 1: Dar – Selous Game Reserve
Pick up from Dar es Salaam early morning around 6:30 a.m and then drive approx 6 hours to Mtemere gate with picnic lunch on route to Selous Game Reserve for afternoon game drive. Selous is famous for its elephants. Other species commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras and greater kudus. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.
Day 2: A Full Day of Game Drives in the Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast, with picnic lunch depart for a morning game drive in the Selous, Africa's largest wildlife sanctuary, with an area of 54.600kms. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.
Day 3: A Full Day of Walking/ Boating Safaris in the Selous
After breakfast, go on a morning walking safari with intimate impressions of the rich wildlife in the African bush. Afternoon boating safari in the Great Rufiji River where you’ll see hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat. Your guide will also be able to point out interesting birds and plant species during this trip. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.
Day 4: Selous Game Reserve – Mikumi National Park
After breakfast depart from Selous Game Reserve for scenic drive through the Uluguru Mountains to Mikumi (approx 7 hours). Picnic lunch en route to Mikumi arriving late afternoon. Mikumi National Park is nestled between the Uluguru Mountains to the northeast, and the Rubeho Mountains, Udzungwa Mountains and Rift Valley escarpment to the southwest. As part of the Selous ecosystem, it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area. The landscape here is beautiful and the wildlife prolific. The park is well-known for its population of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, elands, and greater Kudu, wildebeest, roan and sable antelope. Predators include tree-climbing lions (which are in large number), leopards, wild hunting dogs and black-backed jackal. More than 300 species of birds have been recorded here including Eurasian migrants such as red billed woodpecker, marabou stork and lilac breasted roller. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.
Day 5: Mikumi National Park
Full day of game drives around Mikumi National Park. Several observation towers enable you to view the park in its entirety. Mikumi National Park is mostly Miombo woodland with its gently rolling hills. You can also go on a walking safari with your guide and an armed ranger to get up close and personal with the flora and fauna. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.
Day 6: Mikumi National Park – Ruaha National Park
After early breakfast, check out and proceed to Ruaha National Park. The park covers 12,950 square kilometers, with a large area of dry savanna. The forest contains Miombo woodlands, Acacia woodlands, Riverine forests and Terminalia scrub. Ruaha and Rungwa areas are home to 450 bird species. Arrive in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive in Ruaha National Park. Ruaha National Park is home to the largest population of elephants in any East African natural reserve as well as many other animals and birds all attracted to the Great Ruaha River. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge
Day 7: Ruaha National Park
After breakfast, full day game viewing in Ruaha National Park, which is famous for its rare sable antelope, roan antelope, and big herds of elephants. The park represents a transition zone where eastern and southern African flora and fauna overlap. Although Ruaha is one of the largest parks in Africa, it is comparatively unknown and due to its remoteness, remains unspoiled. Approximately 500 species of birds have been spotted within the park. The river area hosts a large number of hippos and crocodiles. There are also other animals in the park; the elusive wild dogs, elephants, lions, leopards, waterbucks, impalas, giraffes, warthogs and elands. Grants gazelle, ostrich and cheetahs may also be seen on the plains. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge.
Day 8: Ruaha National Park
After breakfast, drive with your picnic lunch to Dar es Salaam.
DDay 9: Ruaha National Park - Dar es Salaam
After breakfast, drive with your picnic lunch to Dar es Salaam.
